Where to Spend: Makeup Edition

By: Kayla Paul

After the Christmas Holiday, people are dying to spend all their gift cards and money at favorite stores like Sephora and Ulta. A lot of people will rush to get their favorite day to day products and things they have had their eye on, now that they have the money to do it. While others are set on what they want, you might not be so certain. As soon as you walk in your mind is racing 50 different ways– eyeliner, highlighter, foundation, concealer, and you have no idea what you need or want!

Here are some of my favorites from this holiday season:

I have used ‘Roller Lash’ by Benefit since I started getting into makeup. A couple months ago I used a sampler of the ‘Better Than Sex’ mascara by Too Faced. The difference between the two was crazy. ‘Better Than Sex’ quickly became my favorite. I strongly recommend the waterproof one if you prefer more dramatic lashes. ‘Better Than Sex’ provides a non-clumping formula and an easy to use wand shape that eliminates the need for an eyelash curler. ‘Better Than Sex’ is great for any occasion, whether it’s an everyday look, or a night out with the girls.

If you’re like me and prefer not to wear a full face of foundation and concealer everyday, Maybelline’s BB cream is a great alternative. This BB cream creates a limited coverage and is super lightweight. BB cream is a great step to your everyday routine because it doubles as sunscreen and is a great moisturizer for your skin. While most might not be inclined to try this due to limited coverage, BB cream is still great for enhancing and covering blemishes.

Japonesque’s ‘Velvet Touch Primer’ is a great addition to your makeup collection. This primer is my personal favorite because it goes on very smooth and blends really easily. This primer is long lasting and keeps your makeup looking fresh all day. I have sensitive skin that gets irritated with many products but this has been one to give me no problems at all, so I strongly recommend for people with sensitive skin.

Recently I’ve been struggling to find the perfect highlighter palette for me. This holiday, I tried out the Becca Light Waves Highlighter Palette and it has proved to be the perfect fit. The three shades combined into the one palette has made it very versatile to fit into everyday makeup or for your night out’s makeup. I have always preferred ‘pinkier’ tones in comparison to golds and whites, Becca’s ‘Moonstone’ shade has me more intrigued to the gold tones. All three of these shades are easy to apply and blend out well.

Urban Decay’s Naked ‘Heat’ Palette creates the perfect looks for fall and winter. This palette includes brown, red, orange, and maroon tones that fit all eye colors well. These 12 shimmers and mattes will combine well to give you a warm smoky eye look or even possibly a more natural look with more of the brown shades.

Hopefully, this article helped to narrow down what you plan to spend leftover Christmas money and gift cards on! I hope you plan to treat yourself and branch off to products like the ones above to complete your makeup look.
