I know, I know – a lot of times, we look at the words “cruelty-free” and grimace because a label like that means a price we’re not comfortable with. But fear not – there are plenty of cruelty-free products that won’t break the bank. There are actually tons of companies choosing to make their products without testing on animals these days, however; there is a difference between cruelty-free and vegan. Cruelty-free means that the product was developed without animal testing, while vegan products (in addition to being cruelty-free) do not have any animal-derived ingredients. When buying cruelty-free, look for a little bunny logo on the packaging – if it doesn’t have a bunny, it hasn’t been certified cruelty-free.
1. e.l.f. Cosmetics
This brand is both affordable and cruelty-free, not to mention that you can find their products almost anywhere. While they are pretty hit or miss in terms of quality, they have some fantastic dupes for high end brands.
Favorite Product: The Flawless Finish Foundation ($6) comes in a range of different skin tones and has a beautiful semi-matte finish. It’s very build-able, and stays put all day!
Milani is another drugstore vegan brand that you can find at Target, CVS, Walgreens and elsewhere. They have TONS of vegan options in their line, which is good news for us!
Favorite Product: This brand’s Rose Powder Blush ($9) has a soft, natural finish to it and a rich pigment. It comes in 4 different shades to compliment every skin tone!
3. NYX (owned by L’Oreal)
Although this company was acquired by L’Oreal, that chooses to sell in China- where tests on animals are required, NYX remains cruelty-free! This is another fantastic drugstore brand – I highly recommend checking out their lip products, eyeshadows, and blushes.
Favorite Product: While there are tons of great options by NYX, their Jumbo Eye Shadow Pencil ($5) in Milk is one of my favorites. It’s super versatile – you can use it not only as an eyeshadow, but also as an eye pencil, lid primer, or highlighter!
4. Anastasia Beverly Hills
While this brand may be a little more on the expensive side, their products are incredibly popular as staples in your makeup bag. From their eyeshadows to their lip products, you’re sure to find something you’ll love!
Favorite Product: DIPBROW® Pomade ($16), duh! This brow product is waterproof, build-able, and smudge-proof! What’s not to love?
5. HALEYS Beauty
This is a relatively new brand in the makeup world, founded in 2016. HALEYS is focused on formulas that not only make your skin look good, but also treat your complexion. And, all of their products are cruelty-free and vegan!
Favorite Product: Their RE:Fine Prime ($12) primer is incredibly lightweight and applies extremely sheer. Put this on before your foundation to guarantee a glowing, flawless complexion!
6. Seraphine Botanicals
Each and every one of these products are vegan, cruelty-free, natural, and hand-blended. They have a wide range of products available, from makeup to haircare, as well as brushes and tools!
Favorite Product: The Lychee + Gold – Healthy Glow Rose-Gold Blush ($14) ticks all of the boxes for a blush: it’s super blend-able, build-able, and multi-dimensional. It also has Lychee & Chamomile extracts for ultimate hydration and luminescence.
This list isn’t totally comprehensive. There are tons of other options if you’re looking to make the switch to cruelty-free makeup, like Lush, wet n wild, Kat Von D, and more! Here’s a more complete list if you’re interested: https://www.crueltyfreekitty.com/list-of-cruelty-free-brands/
